[Tuesday 16th November 2021, London] Today BOMBAY SAPPHIRE announces that it will be opening the doors to a unique food and drink experience, bringing a taste of Spain to the streets of Shoreditch in celebration of the brand’s latest launch – Bombay Sapphire PREMIER CRU Murcian Lemon. Open for two days, the pop-up is a collaboration with Spanish Artist, Coco Davez, who has transformed the Great Eastern Street canvas into a vibrant, Spanish greengrocer with her iconic brightly coloured patterns. Nestled within the greengrocer setting is an intimate tapas and cocktail bar, where guests will enjoy a seasonal, Spanish sharing board that has been curated to pair perfectly with a host of exquisite cocktails that showcase the stunning, balanced flavour profile of the new handcrafted gin.
Guests will step into a traditional Spanish greengrocer, paying homage Bombay Sapphire Premier Cru, which is a celebration of nature’s finest flavours. FRUTERÍA heroes the citrus fruits from the Southeastern region of Murcia, where they are sourced by Master of Botanicals, Ivano Tonutti. To bring this experience to life, BOMBAY SAPPHIRE has partnered with Coco Davez, who is renowned for her bold pop-art style artwork, to transport people from the cold, frosty streets of London to the warm, exotic atmosphere of this Spanish peninsula. Coco has brought her own creative style to the brand to capture the story behind Premier Cru with a striking design that takes inspiration from the unique way in which the Fino lemons, mandarins and bittersweet oranges are harvested and prepared.
Coco Davez says “I was really inspired by the story behind the production of Premier Cru and wanted to honour the dedication of Ivano Tonutti, who has spent many years travelling to Murcia and forging long term relationships with the citrus farmers there. The designs you will see include elements of this story - from the bright yellow and orange fruit to the cascading hand-peeled lemon spirals that are dramatically hung to dry in the heat of the Mediterranean sun. There is so much love and care behind the gin that I was keen to capture, whilst also giving Londoners a true taste of the special province of Murcia.”
FRUTERÍA will feature a shop for passersby to step inside and browse Spanish inspired delicacies, with packaging that has been designed by Coco, making each item a collectable, keepsake piece of art in its own right. The range includes authentic produce such as lemon infused olive oil, Spanish almonds, lemon preserve and Mediterranean olives. Shoppers will also be able to pick up a 70cl bottle of Bombay Sapphire PREMIER CRU Murcian Lemon and FeverTree Indian Tonic Water to create the perfect G&T at home. For cocktail aficionados, a bottled cocktail by famous bartender Rich Woods, has been created for the pop-up. The 200ml Lemon Posset will be available to purchase at the FRUTERÍA.
FRUTERÍA will provide Londoners and those visiting the area with the perfect place to stop and spend time with friends and family, particularly those looking to do something a little different in the run up to the festive season. The Mediterranean dining experience includes a set menu, which is available for £20 pp with a host of seasonal Spanish dishes beautifully presented on a sharing board, followed by a hero sharing dessert for the whole table to tuck into. Leading premium catering company Jimmy Garcia is behind this exclusive menu, that has been created to perfectly pair with the delectable cocktails on offer.
The drinks menu includes a sophisticated but classic Premier Cru Murcian Lemon & Tonic, a delicately sparkling Premier Cru French 75, the Premier Cru Aviation with a cherry twist, plus a guest serve provided by mixology extraordinaire, Ryan Chetiyawardana. Ryan’s cocktail features Bombay Sapphire Premier Cru, lemon & melon husk-infused fino, lemon, rosemary bitters and absinthe. Using leftover lemon husks from Lyaness, and using the melon rinds that are left over from the garnish the drink looks to lift the citrus brightness from within Bombay Sapphire’s Premier Cru. The namesake fino gives salinity and dryness, whilst the rosemary and absinthe nod to the flora of the region. For those looking to drop in for a cocktail, they will be available at £11 each.
Visit Eventbrite to book a FRUTERÍA ticket and time slot for £20 or walk up for tables of up to 6 people for food and/or drink (subject to availability). Open from 1pm - 9.30pm on Friday 26th and 12noon - 9.30pm on Saturday 27thNovember. A majority percentage of profits from the shopping and dining experience will be donated to The Drinks Trust – a drinks industry community organisation providing care and support to the people who form the drinks industry workforce, both past and present.
